With the agreement of his father, Barron Trump, the 18-year-old son of Donald Trump, developed the TrumpCoin (DJT) token and is in possession of the private keys to its smart contract address, according to Martin Shkreli, popularly known as “Pharma Bro.”
CryptoCaster Quick Check:
Shkreli, who was sentenced to more than six years in prison for securities fraud, asserts that Barron Trump asked him to establish the Solana-based coin in April. Based on statistics from Birdseye, the token is currently valued at $146 million.
Regarding the subject, neither Barron Trump nor his aides have made a public statement.
Shkreli asserted at a Mario Nawfal-hosted X Spaces that he did not actively participate in the token’s deployment, simply offering guidance to his “friend” Trump over the token’s debut.
Rather, he claimed that Trump was the real DJT inventor and included influencer “Ansem” from the bitcoin space.
“I showed someone how to establish contact, but it was they who depressed the button, not me. Shkreli stated in an X post that “keys are with Trump, not me.” Shkreli said ten persons were engaged in the token launch in a Tuesday X Spaces.
”I did not act alone.”
Additionally, he asserted that Trump had spoken with Kraken, a cryptocurrency exchange, about possibly listing DJT. When Cointelegraph contacted Kraken outside of usual business hours, no response was received.
Furthermore, he asserts that Donald Trump “approved it” in addition to knowing about the DJT token.
“I have receipts of Barron saying his dad approved it.”
Shkreli tried to back up his case by bringing “Mongolian Prince” into the X Spaces — a teenager with less than 500 X followers who also allegedly worked with Shkreli.
Noticeably shy, Mongolian Prince responded “mmhmm” when asked by an audience member whether “Barron made the token” and “has the private keys.”
“Who deployed the contract,” another audience member asked. Monologian Prince responded: “Barron.”
“[Barron] wanted to do something special, something significant, and we all wanted to help him with that.”
Although Mongolian Prince says he recently met with Trump in Florida, his account of the events is significantly less precise when it comes to Trump’s alleged involvement.
Before the DJT token debut, the Mongolian Prince said Barron showed his father his Phantom wallet, which is based in Solana, and the father reportedly just laughed.
The day after blockchain expert ZachXBT received a $150,000 prize from blockchain analytics company Arkham Intelligence for purportedly identifying Shkreli as the developer of the DJT cryptocurrency, he held his seven-hour X Spaces.
Partner at Cinneamhain Ventures, Adam Cochran, charged that Shkreli was “trying to throw Barron under the bus” in an effort to clean his own name.
Many spectators in the X Spaces agreed with Shkreli’s account of events. Some disagreed, saying Trump wouldn’t be foolish enough to jeopardize his father’s reputation during an election year.
One of Trump’s close advisors, Roger Stone, refuted any involvement of the former president or his son with the DJT memcoin as the conversation around Barron Trump’s involvement grabbed center stage on social media.
In 2017, Shkreli was found guilty on two charges of securities fraud and one count of conspiracy in a federal court. He was sentenced to almost seven years in prison and was fined almost $70 million as a result.
Although Shkreli has refuted this, others have speculated that his current involvement may have violated his parole restrictions.
In response to the 1.6 million followers X account “BORED,” which threatened to send him back to prison, Shkreli responded, “Read the law, idiot.”
