According to Musk, the first Neuralink product will be called “Telepathy,” and it will let users operate digital devices with just their thoughts.
According to Neuralink’s owner, Elon Musk, the first human patient implanted with the company’s brain-computer device is “recovering well.”

Musk stated that the person successfully received the implant on Sunday, January 28, in a post dated January 29 to X. The preliminary findings, he continued, indicated “promising neuron spike detection.”
According to Musk, Neuralink’s brain implant is designed to help people who have severe injuries or paralysis interact with a phone or computer simply by thinking. Neuralink’s initial product is known as Telepathy.
“Imagine if Stephen Hawking could communicate faster than a speed typist or auctioneer. That is the goal.”
According to a blog post from the company on September 19, Neuralink first accepted applications for human clinical trials in September of last year. This came after the company received approval for its PRIME (Precise Robotically Implanted Brain-Computer Interface) study from the US Food and Drug Administration in May of 2023.
Developing a successful Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) that enables individuals to “control a computer cursor or keyboard using their thoughts alone” is the primary objective of the PRIME study.
A tiny incision is made in the patient’s skull, and a surgical robot uses this opening to implant the Neuralink device—made of “ultra-fine and flexible threads”—into the part of the brain that governs movement intention as part of the Brainstem Cleft Initiative (BCI).

After being implanted, the device is “cosmetically invisible” and serves as a wireless data transmission and recording tool, sending information to an app that translates the patient’s mental movements into digital movements on a device.
Regulators have been critical of Neuralink’s safety protocols in recent months, and four US lawmakers have asked the SEC to look into Elon Musk’s purportedly fraudulent statements about the safety of Neuralink implants.
Musk claimed that “no monkeys had died” as a result of the Neaurlink implants in an X post that has since been removed on September 10. The legislators argued that this was a purposefully misleading statement meant to mislead investors.
The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine reported that at least 12 young monkeys were put to death after suffering from severe health issues that were directly linked to Neuralink’s implants in a letter dated September 20 to the SEC’s enforcement division.
